Viva Australia!

We went and saw Australia at the movies the other day. Besides being fabulous because we saw it in Gold Class in Sydney whilst having Long Island Ice Teas, champagne and food, the movie itself was fantastic!
The cinematography was beautiful, the acting was great and of course Hugh Jackman took his shirt off which didn't hurt our eyes at all.
It was great to see a movie which had a real "Australian feel" to it, and to see something like the bombing of Darwin depicted on the big screen.
Go see it, or maybe come and see it with us at the stadium at Gosford in the coming weeks.
5/5 Wigs!

Paris' Christmas warning: Don't eat too much!

Paris Hilton sent us a photo so we could warn everybody about the dangers of eating too much over the Christmas break. Take it easy on the turkey everybody!

K-Y-L-I-E, Kylie, you rock!

Here are a couple of pics we managed to take in between our dancing and screaming at the Kylie concert on Tuesday night. We saw the X2008 tour on Sunday and Tuesday night and screamed ourselves horse both times.
The concert was fabulous (of course) with most of the songs from Kylie's last album X mixed in with some of her hits and a couple of brand new songs. The sets, designs and choreography was fantastic, as is the Kylie souvenir teacup and saucer we bought.
Our only regret was that we didn't buy tickets to the Wednesday night concert too. Oh, and mabye not buying a 2nd teacup and saucer.

Easily distracted.....

Well, not only did we not get our review of Quantum of Solace up (fun but not fabulous) before we went on our cruise, but we have been distracted by life and have not posted anything else.
So just to keep the anxious hordes at bay here is a photo of us butching it up for the benefit of our fellow passengers on our cruise (which was both fun and fabulous)! We will put up some more cruise photos soon, together with our usual nonsense and our comments on KYLIE who we saw 2 nights ago and are seeing again tonight.

Chesty Bond

We are going to see the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, tonight, so we just thought we would post a little reminder of why Daniel Craig makes such a good James Bond. We will try to put up a review before we go on our cruise (!!!).

Drag Photo of the Week - Number 6

For our photo this week we have the one and only Miss Shelley Lee caught in full flight at our joint birthday party last year. We will let you guess how old we turned :(
We were truly honoured to have the fab-u-lous Miss Lee entertain us and our guests. We are hoping Miss Lee will be able to make an appearance in Nigel's next video.

18 November 2008

Coming soon.....

What is that thing above? It's just one of the strange but fabulous items which will be featured in our upcoming new regular posting - Paul's Toy of the Week (name subject to confirmation)- in which Paul will feature one of the pieces in his toy collection. This feature will be introduced once we get back from our cruise. Oh, did we mention we're about to go on a cruise?

R.I.P. Ringo

Drag Queens of Death would like to bid a fond adieu to Ringo (named due to his likeness to a yellow submarine) who bid farewell to this mortal world, and to our fish tank, sometime between between feeding time last night and the discovery of his body this morning. Ringo was our favourite little fishy, full of personality as he zipped around the fish tank, hovering in his strange way, and nibbling on your fingers when you put them in the water.
Farewell fine fishy, may marine heaven be full of your favourite activity, feeding time.

Dying Breed - Movie Review

The moment we saw the controversial movie poster above, we knew we had to go see Dying Breed.
Dying Breed is an Australian horror movie which follows a similar storyline to many American horror movies, such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wrong Turn. The movie follows a group of young people who go off the beaten track in Tasmania and stumble across a group of cannibal hillbillies.
Although a bit overly familiar it is great fun to see this story in an Australian setting and the cast and crew do a great job in the acting, effects and cinemaphotography. There are some genuinely "icky moments and the movie is a lot of fun whilst still genuinely chilling. It is not recommended for the feint of heart or people who have just finished a meat pie. Featuring stars from Wolf Creek and Saw, Dying Breed is another excellent Australian contribution to the horror genre.
3.5/5 wigs.

DQOD meet Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert

Last night we went with our friends Jamie and Lyndsay (seen above with Paul enjoying radioactive cocktails) to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert - The Musical at the Lyric Theatre, Star City Casino in Sydney.
It was our third time seeing the show (Jamie and Lyndsays' fifth) but the first time we had seen it since the musical returned from Melbourne. There had been a few changes since we saw it, some extra brief scences, an hilarious appearance by Bindi Irwin and a great improvement to the Alice Springs Casino performance. We were also pleased to see there is now a cast recording available.
The lead role is now being performed by Todd McKenny who did a great job. He didn't have his trousers on the whole time though, so I hope he had someone responsible looking after them. The real star of the show though is still Tony Sheldon as Bernadette.
The show is spectacular and lots of fun even the third or fifth time around. It's only on for a limited time so make sure you go see it!

Witch Queen of Death!

This photo was taken by Robert's business partner Pauline at Rose Hall in Montego Bay, the home of Annie Palmer the "White Witch of Jamaica". She was born to white parents in Haiti and after she was orphaned, her Haitian nanny brought her up. Her nanny was a voodoo and witchcraft practitioner and taught Annie all she knew. Annie then moved to Jamaica, marrying a rich white sugar plantation owner. She murdered him and two subsequent husbands. She had a number of lovers after that - all slaves on her plantation.
Eventually she was murdered by one of her lovers. She also had a nasty pastime of hanging slaves who'd displeased her in the back yard - for entertainment. After she died, the slaves burnt all of her things. All that remains of her belongings at Rose Hall are her mirror (in the photo), a bell-pull, a day bed and a chandelier. There is a painting that is said to portray her and some children (shown above). Spookily, her whole head (not just the eyes) seems to move and follow you as you walk through the room!

Apparently Annie's ghost still haunts the mansion. After being told that Annie's face sometimes appears in photos of the mirror Pauline and her husband Jiri both took photos of it. Nothing appeared in Jiri's photo, but the spooky outline of a face appeared in Pauline's. She assures me there was nothing opposite that could have caused the picture. Creepy!

Melbourne Cup

Today is Melbourne Cup Race Day. Paul has taken the day off work (and another day to recover) to go to the racetrack in Sydney for the Cup celebrations, and Robert is having an office lunch. To celebrate the day we thought a picture of a jockey might be appropriate. We googled images for "jockey" and came up with the 2 pictures above. We couldn't decide which one was more appropriate, so enjoy them both!

Anna Nicole Smith loves Drag Queens of Death from beyond the grave

When Paul met Anna Nicole it wasnt without incident. He accidently spilt champagne of her dress, "oooh its cold" she cried, "suck it out" and it true trashy fashion Paul obliged and sucked the champagne out. Robert then noticed Paul and exclaimed, "eeeew, you dont know where that dress has been", which sent Paul running for mouth wash.

Would one be having fries with that?

The credit crunch has been having a bad effect for everyone around the world.
Even poor old Liz is having to do a 2nd job to keep things together.
If only she was the RIGHT sort of queen!

The real reason we are watching the footy........

Just in case you were wondering, this is the real reason we are watching the footy grand final.

This is Matt Balin from Manly, one of the teams playing today.

Lets go Manly!

For those who are true Drag Queens of Death, a wikipedia explanation of what rugby league is, is available here.

Footy Fever at DQOD Headquarters

They said it would never happen, but here at Drag Queens of Death HQ we are watching the NRL grand final tonight! Our friend Janet (pictured above with Pru) bribed us with a bottle of Bollinger to convince us to watch. She has assured us she will take no offence if we only pay attention when they have the locker room shots.
Rumours that Janet and Pru are secret lovers have been vigorously denied. Sorry, just that neither of us swing that way Grrrls.

Miss Rusty Nails Pregnant!

SHOCK NEWS!
Miss Rusty Nails, recently returned from her luxury cruise, confirmed today she is pregnant, and is due to give birth anyday now.
Miss Nails has denied it is just a bad case of gas due to overconsumption of alcohol on the cruise.
Names for the baby rumoured are Midori, Bacardi, Corona or Sunday Drink.
But who is the father?
In any event, we wish her a safe delivery.

Drag Queen Photo of the Week

Miss Pru Dish ready for a performance.

Meet Mr Bassie

Here at Drag Queens of Death we thought it was time to introduce you to our cat, Sebastian: also known as "Mr Bassie", "Teeny Tiny Bass" and "That $%@# Cat Who Suddenly Bites You After Sitting On Your Lap For 2 Hours".
Although we have some friends who insist they need to bring over garlic and holy water when they come to visit if Bassie is around, he really is a beautiful cat and the biggest sook on the planet. He loves nothing more than sitting on your lap or next to you, and will follow you from room to room as you clean the house.
His favourite game is hide and seek - you just need to watch for the tell-tale "evil ears" which appear when the deadly side of the drag queen in him comes out - and then quickly run screaming from the room.
More photos of Bassie next time we run out of other things to post about.

Miss Rusty Nail's Cocktail of the Month

Miss Rusty Nails has just returned from her Luxury Liner South Pacific Cruise where the sailors taught her a thing or two. Refreshed by the salty sea air she has kindly agreed to share with us her cocktail of the month.
If we ask nicely, maybe she might give us some beauty tips too.

Movie Review - Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D

On Thursday night we saw Journey to the Centre of the Earth in 3D. The first live action movie made in the new 3D. Firstly let us say we will see just about any movie in 3D (as long as they don't make Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 3 in 3D). We will also go see just about any movie with Brendan Fraser.
Put them together and you have a really fun, roller coaster ride of a movie. Journey is short and quickly paced, the perfect popcorn movie with laughs and adventure and crystal clear high definition 3D. Unlike the recent cartoon 3D movies (such as Monster House) Journey also includes some fun 3D gimmick shots such as a yo-yo coming out of the screen at you.
We really loved it and would recommend it as long as you are happy to sit back, put reality aside and go for a ride. It is also definitely worth making a trip to see it in one of the cinemas showing it in 3D.
Rating: 4/5 wigs.

A must for EVERY Drag Queen of Death is a raygun from the clever inventors at WETA Collectables. We have all three models, you never know when there may be an Martian invasion or zombie uprising and the Drag Queens or Death are called upon to save humanity.

Kylie loves the Drag Queens of Death

As you can see Kylie loves the Drag Queens of Death. Paul has met Kylie and got tips on maintaining a flawless complexion.

Countdown to Kylie

Had to do another post with another countdown - the countdown to seeing Kylie in Concert! We are going to both her Sydney shows which have been announced so far, on 14 & 16 December.

Last tour we went 3 times, and were lucky enough to be there when Bono sang "Kids" with Kylie, and I have included the photo I took on my mobile phone. Not so close this time, but who cares its Kylie - and she comes out on stage in her new show on a skull wearing thigh high boots. I am sure that's a tribute to the Drag Queens of Death!

Countdown to Cruising

We are heading off on a cruise on the Dawn Princess (pictured) on 23 November 2008- only 2 months from today and we just can't wait. The cruise is for 12 nights and goes to 5 ports in New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. We are going with our friends John, Neil, Craig and Robert.

We have done a cruise around Hawaii with Neil and John before and had a fabulous time. So hopefully this will be the same.

2 months now to try and make sure that no-one rolls us off the ship to "set us free" whilst we are sunbaking. We'll try and do some reports from the ship when the time comes, in the meantime the countown begins!

Our latest tv addiction - The Mighty Boosh

Although Robert had watched the odd episode or two, it is only recently we have both discovered the wonders of the Mighty Boosh. This surreal comedy from the UK is almost indescribable, but features, glam, off the wall moments, song and dance, bad costumes and beheading. Everything a Drag Queens of Death show should have.
.
Catch it now Monday nights on SBS or on DVD.

On being FABULOUS!

Three clicks in a circle and voila - we have entered the digital age wigs first!

Welcome to our new blog where we will enter our random ramblings, items of interest and explain what it takes to be a Drag Queen of Death!

More to come soon.
